Basics Of Filling A Screen With A Single Gold Leaf Plant

Scrogging, or placing a plant under a screen in hopes of placing a higher amount of yield. More and more growers are opting for this method because it’s easier, requires little maintenance and best of all, the yield is not disappointing. Countryboyjvd1971 is no beginner when it comes to growing. Like his name suggests, he usually grows outdoor.

Now, to try something new, he placed a single Gold Leaf under a screen. One plant to fill out a 4 feet x 4 feet screen, will he be able to do it?
Name: Countryboyjvd1971
Seed: Gold Leaf
Location: USA
Yield: Medium

For this grow, he did not use a lot of things. In fact, aside from the usual screen and wire-support, he only used the following:

  • 4 feet x 4 feet x 7 feet tent
  • (4) Cob Grow Lights
  • 400 watts Roleandro
  • 1000 watts CrxSunny
  • 4 feet x 2 feet screen
  • Pro Mix BX

August 28

A week ago, Countryboyjvd1971 germinated a Gold leaf which grew beautifully. He is using a 4 feet x 4 feet x 7 feet tent to house the plants. The tent has four Cob grow lights, a 400 watts Roleandro and a 1000 watts CrxSunny. With everything set, he is ready to transplant the plants into their permanent homes.

They will be placed in a 5-gallon soft pot and he will use Pro Mix BX as his medium. Countryboyjvd1971 also made sure that the water he is using has a pH level of 5.8.

What’s more is that this single plant, would be used to fill out a screen. Scrogging for the win.

September 8

Ten days later and our grower has fantastic results. His Gold Leaf is loving the Pro Mix BX and grew a couple of leaf decks with big fan leaves. Well, according to Countryboyjvd1971, this medium answers the needs of most frowing application. It also contains vermiculite which is known to improve nutrient retention. He is following the recommended feeding schedule by Nectar of the Gods although he brought the pH level higher to 6.2.

September 13

The lady (plant) is still receiving full doses of nutrient as per the Nectar of the Gods’s early vegetation stage schedule. He has been feeding her once a week although, he is not a beginner so he’s daring enough to bump it up a bit. Countryboyjvd1971 is willing to push it to twice a week, that is if she does not suffer.

She has already been topped and super cropped too, so expect more growth.

September 20

This little lady has been growing for a month already. It’s still in Pro Mix BX, and the plants are still loving it. He added another process in the mix, he gives it a foliar spray 3 to 4 hours before lights on.

Also, it’s scrogging time. He already added a screen for the plants that’s 30 inches off the ground.

October 26

Sorry but Countryboyjvd1971 is one busy boy. We have been left in the dark for a 1 month and a week already because he has a lot of things to attend to. Although, he is still taking care of this Gold Leaf wonder. In fact, he has already switched to 12-12 light cycle last week. Time to see the real action here.

Finally Finally

See those buds? They are already fillng the branches from main stem to the end of the cola. She looks bountiful and scrumptious. Her aroma is now floating in the air, a little bit sweet with a tinge of spice too. Hmmm… seems exciting.

Although it was not all sugar sweet grow. This lady had some discoloration when Countryboyjvd1971 was away for a few days. Although, like what was said, he’s no beginner to growing. He is so close to solving this annoying problem.

November 30

Admittedly, he was not able to give the plant 100% attention. Let’s give this man a break, he has been attending to his mom, who has passed away recently.

December 4

Finally, we can see her now. There were a lot of times when he was not able to able to feed her. Then again, the man’s situation is understandable. Also, she’s almost done filling out the screen, no harm no foul.

Her buds are stinky and sticky, he’s just waiting for the trichome to amber up. Then it’s going to be chopping time for this baby.

Although he’s not able to show some pictures, he informed us that he was able to harvest a medium-sized yield. Also, there are two more Gold Leaves brewing in the tent. We could expect more from this man soon.

Now, to try something new, he placed a single Gold Leaf under a screen. One plant to fill out a 4 feet x 4 feet screen, will he be able to do it?

Final Thoughts

Beginners should not be threatened by problems that they encounter as their plants grow. Those are normal and should not dishearten those who are brave enough to even attempt. All growers, even those who have been growing for a long time, have the slightest inconvenience in growing.

Countryboyjvd1971 is someone who is highly respected in growing. In fact, he is known to help others when they do encounter problems with their plants. Yet, he still had some discoloration along the way. He did not give up, in fact he was positive that his lady would survive. She did.

Also, don’t be afraid to experiment with nutrients. He only used Pro Mix BX and yet, he was able to gather some yield. In growing, what is important is to learn, have fun and be better for your next grow.

Hi, I'm new to the "farm". I wanted to ask what the difference between growing with a screen and without? Indoors and out. Thank you for your posts, I find that this is my go to bible lol

As growing cannabis is illegal so, I took the help of cannabis specialist at Online Medical Card to get my grower’s license. Good to know about this method and the promising results. Now as I got my license, I will try this growing method for my cannabis.
