Cannabidivarin (CBDV) is a cannabinoid that has no psychoactive effects just like cannabidiol (CBD). CBDV is great for medicinal purposes, but it does not get you high. Due to marijuana being illegal mainly because of its psychoactive effects, there is little research on the therapeutic benefits of non-psychoactive cannabis.

Luckily, weed lovers and patients who can benefit from the health benefits of marijuana are now able to learn about the cannabinoids that do not come with psychedelic effects. Still, more studies are needed to understand the full scope of cannabidivarin’s non-agitative, anti-nausea ability.

What is Cannabidivarin (CBDV)?

Cannabinoids are the active ingredient in cannabis plants. The CBDV variety is most commonly found in Pakistan and is very similar to CBD. Cannabis found in Mexico has also been found to have CBDV. It is one of 113 cannabinoids that makes up the cannabis plant. Scientifically, it has 7 double bond isomers and 30 stereoisomers just like CBD. Cannabidivarin also has no psychedelic properties which is great for people who have a negative response to large doses of THC. Now those with anxiety can reap the benefits of marijuana without the potential for a panic attack.

CBDV comes before the compound, THCV. According to research cannabidivarin becomes THCV once it enters an acidic environment, which is interesting considering scientist are studying THCV’s potential for healing diabetes.

There isn’t much information available about the way CBDV influences the body, but researchers are currently examining the way it affects many ailments such as breast cancer, schizophrenia, and epilepsy.

Most weed growers or seed distributors do not have strains that contain CBDV. However, if the cannabis strain has a significant amount of CBD, then there will likely be more cannabidivarin present. Even though the majority of cannabis strains have high levels of THC, the good news is there are more marijuana plants with higher concentrates of CBDV appearing in certain strains and various parts of the world.

While we can’t prove with certainty how helpful CBDV is, experiments have revealed that this particular cannabinoid could turn out to be quite useful in improving health.

The Healing Benefits of Cannabidivarin (CBDV)

We currently have few studies on CBDV that help us understand the way it can nourish our bodies. By rest assure, research is being conducted to reveal cannabinoid’s anticonvulsant properties. Some of the curative effects of CBDV is relieving seizures and nausea from serious illnesses such as epilepsy. Research has been able to successfully prove that this cannabinoid alleviates nausea.

According to one study published by the National Institute of Health on cannabidivarin (CBDV) reducing PTZ induced epilepsy gene expression, CBDV considerably decreased the severe impact of seizures. Their findings concluded that CBDV does, in fact, have anticonvulsant non-psychedelic behavioral effects on chemically-induced seizures and thereby makes it fit for further scientific study.

Researchers also conducted a study published by the NIH using THC and CBD on rats with signs of induced epilepsy. Their findings show that non-psychoactive cannabinoids combine with the transient receptor TRPV1 which identifies and manages body temperatures while creating pain sensations. According to the study, the anticonvulsive medication Capsaicin focuses on TRP channels to fight the steady method where a typical brain grows epilepsy. Scientist discovered CBDV and capsaicin dephosphorylated TRPV1.

The researchers now suggest more testing on how CBDV effects TRP channels to know the cannabinoid’s anticonvulsive capacity. Their research concluded CBDV decreased the time and potency of simulated epileptic seizures in rat brains.

In terms of nausea, a 2013 British Journal of Pharmacology research examined CBDV and THCV’s ability to create CB1 receptor opposite agonism symptoms of nausea in rats. Their study found that CBDV and THCV have the potential to alleviate nausea.

How CBDV Effects Nausea, Epilepsy, and Bones

Researchers have found three health conditions where CBDV has the most potential of causing improvement. Unfortunately, CBDV is not easy to find, but the recent studies are making it a good idea for growers to consider breeding cannabis with CBDV.

Here are 3 conditions that CBDV is quite useful for:

  • Nausea

Researchers tested animals using lithium chloride to determine the benefits of CBDV on nausea. The rats responded to this treatment by gawking which is their way of showing nausea since they are unable to actually vomit the way humans do. In rats, CBDV did an excellent job of slowing down gawking in rats.

This was a clear sign that CBDV has very similar anti-nausea effects as its other cannabinoid counterparts.

  • Epilepsy

More than 50 million people suffer from epilepsy around the world. Clinical testing has already proven CBD’s ability to decrease seizures. Further research has made it clear that the cannabinoid CBDV also has anticonvulsant abilities.

In 2012, the National Institutes of Health published a study on how CBDV changes seizure activity in rats. GW Pharmaceuticals has a patent on CBDV for its curative abilities when used for epilepsy. Studies conducted with CBDV in 2014 indicated it slows down electrical waves in response to seizure activity in brain slices outside of the body.

This research is a huge step forward and shows cannabidivarin may be a promising option as an anti-epileptic treatment. Researchers now have reason to believe CBDV could be an essential addition to many patient’s health.

  • Bones

Cannabidivarin has the potential to aid in bone growth. CBDV has components that stimulate the bones, and this is great news for anyone who experiences a fractured bone. Scientist researching CBD discovered something identical with it due to the ability to toughen the cartilage bridge that connects fragments of fractures.

Due to CBDV’s potential to stimulate stem cells in bone marrow, this means it could help create and restore bones.

Where to Get CBDV in the Cannabis Plant

If you are interested in incorporating CBDV into your diet to improve your health, it can be found in several forms of cannabis found in Mexico. It is also prevalent in high quantities within Indica landrace strains and hemp in northwest India and hashish from Pakistan.

Cannabis plants containing more CBD than it does THC are likely to have CBDV. However, keep in mind that a strain containing low concentrations of THC and being of the Indian variety does not mean it will have elevated levels of CBDV. For best results, purchase your seeds from a reputable marijuana seed distributor or grower.
