Information about Day Tripper:
The words ‘Day Tripper’ is a familiar phrase for many. This is not surprising though especially since a famous song of the same name was released by the phenomenal Beatles in 1965. Although, the expression could also be taken literally to refer to a person enjoying a psychedelic ‘trip’ during the day – which, in the cannabis industry, is exactly what happens when using the strain.
Day Tripper takes the boundaries of potency to a whole new level. While most average around the 20% threshold, the well-balanced hybrid consistently tests between 24% to 28% THC regardless of who cultivated the strain and when it was harvested. For this reason, the strain remains a staple in the collections of many thrill seekers.
While its breeder remains unnamed, their legacy remains in the level of expertise they have portrayed in Day Tripper – a three-way cross between Sensi Star, Master Kush, and Medicine Man. All three are Indica dominant yet they have lent much of their Sativa influence to their offspring.

It would be distasteful to forget about Day Tripper in a conversation about fast-acting strains. After all, its psychedelic effects do manifest immediately after the first puff. Not only that, the perfectly balanced hybrid is intensely powerful that many who use it note a rush of euphoria swarm the mind. That is what the initial onset is about, of course.
The behavioral change is outright noticeable. Many find themselves feeling upbeat and even happy from within. While some prefer to bask their day away in nostalgic memories, some take advantage of the clearheaded high or profound ideations by working. And, with a sharper sense of focus, concentrating for longer periods of time is not at all a chore.
After about an hour or two, an uplifting sensation from the temples begins to ebb down. In the soothing and rhythmic fashion of waves, it massages the muscles and removes any unwanted tension. Taking their place is a relaxing body buzz that is not at all sedating.
Because of its great wake-and-bake qualities, Day Tripper can be used during the day, mid-noon, or early evening. Although, it is possible that the bud may stun users in place with its high levels of THC.
Day Tripper’s fragrance is astonishingly sweet and earthy. It is enhanced by the subtle citrus of blueberries and improved by a floral undertone that intensifies once the buds are broken apart or combusted.
Most likely, users will end up dehydrated while using marijuana. The dryness is most obvious in the mouth and the eyes since cannabinoids interfere with moisture production in both areas. While they usually go away with time, users may still rehydrate with a few glasses of water.
‘Greening out’ is also possible while using Day Tripper. It is a condition characterized by dizziness and a keen awareness that can lead to anxiety especially in people prone to the condition. Some may also feel a little paranoid. This is rare though and, if anything, is usually a side effect of overusing the strain. Individual tolerance can also be a factor.
Day Tripper retains much of its therapeutic value from its parent Medicine Man. While the former does not contain the astounding CBD levels of the latter, the combined efforts of its THC and other cannabinoids like terpenes provide reprieve against a variety of medical conditions.
In inducing a mood-stabilizing high, Day Tripper helps users with depression or temporarily manage their mental illness. It positively affects outlooks and instills a sense of hope. Meanwhile, the uplifting effects release stress and reduce anxiety levels.
Apart from the stimulating head high, THC is also responsible for the soothing body buzz that eases away pain beginning from the temples. As it reaches the gastrointestinal tract, Day Tripper’s antiemetic properties keep users from vomiting by preventing nausea. This is great for patients diagnosed with eating disorders like anorexia or cancer patients undergoing the harrowing effects of chemotherapy in the stomach.
Stress can also affect the quality and length of sleep. However, by calming the mind and relaxing the body, Day Tripper significantly increases both factors so users feel reinvigorated right after their unencumbered slumber.
Day Tripper has the structure of both Indica and Sativa plants. It does not grow too tall and maintains quite a manageable height that fits most growing areas. It is also a vigorous producer with buds that are tapered on one end but absolutely dense.
While the bud is quite sturdy, it does not necessarily mean it can withstand the unpredictability of the outdoors. Many growers still prefer cultivating their strain indoors. After all, controlled environments make it easier to adjust deciding factors like humidity, temperature, and lighting. In this way, breeders can protect their Day Tripper batch from pests while maintaining or enhancing its overall chemical profile.
With that said, growers with limited spaces may still need to shorten the vegetative period and top the plant early. Trimming the plant also promotes better light and air circulation along with healthier budding sites. Mediums should be taken into consideration as well. Using soil, for example, significantly affects terpenes but hydroponics produces ‘cleaner’ buds.
Depending on the skill level and experience of the grower, Day Tripper can blossom as short as 7 weeks or extend up to 10 weeks. Once mature, it produces 12 to 14 ounces of buds per square meter.
In the northern hemisphere, Day Tripper blossoms between late September to the end of October. It yields at least 14 ounces of buds per plant.
