Unless you’ve been living under a rock, or a place where cannabis is still illegal (I know what’s the difference, right?) you’ve noticed that vape pens are everywhere now. You’re probably interested in trying one, if you haven’t already. There are so many different types though! How are you to know if you want a vape pen, a dab pen, a wax pen. Wait, I can get a disposable pen too? It can be confusing to those who are just starting out. Consider this your definitive guide to vape pens!
What is a Vape Pen?
A vape pen is a small device that is made for vaporizing dry cannabis flower or cannabis concentrates. They have become extremely popular in the last few years, with veteran smokers and greenhorns alike. We love them because they are super convenient. If I’m feeling too tired to load a bowl, I just reach for my vape pen and puff until I’ve had my fill. Perhaps one of the best things about vape pens is that they are very easy to conceal. This makes them great for walking down the street or any time when you’re out and about.
What are Different Types of Vape Pens?
There a quite a few different types of vape pens. Some are for dry herb and others are for wax, oils and other concentrates. Vape pens consist of four main parts: the battery, the heating element or atomizer, which is what heats your materials to the ideal temperature for vaping. The tank, which holds your materials, the rechargeable battery, which powers the device, and of course the software that is responsible for bringing it all together!
Disposable vape pens are similar, except most of the time they come preloaded (if you buy from a dispensary, anyway) and the battery is not rechargeable. Once the battery dies, you ditch the pen and buy a new one. Disposable pens are great for those who are new to vaping, and are not quite sure that they will like it. They’re also convenient for when you’re in a situation where you need to ditch your pen. For the cannabis connoisseur on a budget, seriously nothing beats a cheap disposable vape pen!
How are Dab Pens Different?
Dab pens are different from your typical vape pen because you load them with sticky waxy concentrates, which are called dabs. They’re commonly referred to as wax pens. You should not use oils such as vaping juice as they contain sugars and things that are not made to work with dab pens. Some pens are made for both, but if you plan on using primarily one or the other, then it’s best to get one that caters to the type of concentrate you plan to use.
What About Cartridges?
A lot of dispensaries sell preloaded cartridges, which come with the e-juice already in there. These are a favorite of many (including me) because all you have to do is screw on the cartridge and you’re ready for a good time! Cartridges are easily replaceable and disposed of after they have been used. If you get a good quality battery, you can get through many cartridges before you need to buy a new one.
