In case you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably aware that the long awaited sequel to the stoner classic Super Troopers is coming out this weekend just in time for 4/20! Will it be any good? I mean, maybe? I’ve been pretty disappointed in classic sequels in the past. The sequel to Dumb and Dumber, another one of my favorites, turned out to be a massive disappointment. Will Super Troopers 2 be the same?
The beloved comedy about stoner state troopers who do wacky things like hold syrup chugging contests, came out when I was in high school. This was also when I was freshly into my weed smoking years. As you can imagine it always held a special place in my heart. I mean, who hasn’t played the “meow” game? Watching this movie while taking gravity bong rips with my friends used to be one of my favorite activities. So why wouldn’t anyone like a sequel?

Well, there are two possible ways that this could go. The sequel could be basically an homage to the original Super Troopers. It could repeat all of the same jokes and come out partially decent. Anyone up for another syrup chugging contest? How about we watch some unwitting youths eat an entire bag of weed and an entire bag of mushrooms? By the way, eating a whole bag of weed is not going to do anything to you. I wouldn’t recommend trying it. Anyway, back to Super Troopers 2. Why would anyone want to watch a version of the same movie that they’ve already been watching for years? This is why I’ve never gotten the point of the nostalgia movie.
So their best bet is to make a movie that tries to be an actual sequel to the movie. So, let’s check out the trailer for Super Troopers 2 and compare, shall we?
So, we join the original gang after they have been fired from their jobs as Vermont state troopers. Now they are helping a French Canadian town that turns out to actually be in America. Some of our favorite gags will make a comeback, such as the meow game. There looks to be lots of hilarious new gags from the Broken Lizard troupe as well.
It appears that all of my fears were unwarranted. This movie looks hysterical. I can’t wait to see it this 4/20.
I am left wondering what other stoner comedies from the late nineties early 2000s will be remade, or made into sequels. Will we see a sequel to Half Baked? Maybe we will see a remake of How High? I don’t imagine Method Man is doing all that much these days. Are Cheech and Chong too old for their old antics?
