As the movement of getting adult-use marijuana legalized in the state of New York is growing, the country’s well-known cannabis company MedMen has opened its first luxurious flagship MMJ store at Fifth Avenue, the world’s most quintessential retail thoroughfare.
Even though the store will sell MMJ products, but its interior design looks like a promise for the future. LED Chandeliers, iPad displays, artwork and sharp design features tell you that MedMen are not operating their business apologetically. The store’s luxury and extravagance matches with any other high-end retail shop on the street. Every aspect of the shop demonstrates that marijuana is now a mainstream commodity.
MedMen’s dispensaries in California put dozens of cannabis strains and products on sale. But here in New York, due to stringent set of laws, the store is only offering five different strains of medical marijuana. These strains will be available in the form of capsules, tinctures and vapes.
The digital iPod displays installed in the store are really innovative. Patients can find all pertinent information on these displays regarding the available strains. For instance, which strain is used for what medical condition and how much THC and CBD are present in it. Even if you don’t want to find all these details your own or need further assistance, there will be a team of pharmacists in the store to guide you.
Although everyone is welcomed to explore the store, but to buy any product costumers have to show a state-issued medical marijuana card and a note of physician’s recommendation. In the metropolitan of more than 20 million inhabitants, over 30,000 people possess MMJ permits. From the design of MedMen’s MMJ store, it is evident that they have built it to integrate recreational operations as well.
Even though the state has decriminalized the small possession of cannabis, but adult-use cannabis is still prohibited in the city. Cynthia Nixon, an actress known for her Role in Sex and the City and New York’s gubernatorial candidate, has announced that she is in favor of legalizing recreational cannabis.
She thinks that legalizing recreational marijuana is a one way to end the selective persecution directed at the people of color. It is a well known fact that most of the drug-related arrests are made from the African-American Community.
The public support for marijuana is also consolidating very rapidly. This changing mood of masses has forced the incumbent governor, Andrew Cuomo, to reconsider its position on marijuana. In the past, Cuomo opposed marijuana many time at public platforms. He even classified cannabis as a gateway drug once. However, he now concedes that facts have changed on the subject.
With marijuana mainstreaming from businesses and shifting stances of politicians, it now seems imminent that the Empire state will soon legalize adult-use cannabis. With blanket legalization, New York will become the biggest cannabis business hub on the East Coast. Moreover, New York’s decision to legalize recreational cannabis will influence many others states to follow in its footsteps.
