Texas loves CBD

CBD is growing in popularity around the world, and there’s more and more information emerging about the other wellness and health benefits it offers. It’s safe to say, this oil is here to stay.

If you live in Texas, you’ve probably heard about it, but you may be wondering what it is. You may also wonder how you can benefit from it or what Texas law says about it. Most of all, you may wonder where you can access CBD oil in Texas.

What is CBD?

First, let’s discuss what CBD is.

CBD is the short form for cannabidiol, one of the cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Cannabidiol is non-psychoactive, so you will not get a high when you use or consume CBD oil. CBD oil can be obtained from either marijuana or hemp.

Keep in mind,

These plants are “cousins” – the only difference is how much THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) they contain.

Legally, hemp is a cannabis plant with a THC content of 0.3 percent or less, while marijuana is a cannabis plant with more than 0.3 percent THC. CBD oil, on the other hand, contains at least 10 percent CBD and less than 0.3 THC content.

CBD oil has been soaring in popularity, likely due to its many positive effects. These benefits include combating inflammation in the body, anti-carcinogenic effects, helping people sleep better, and more. Research keeps revealing a growing number of conditions and diseases that can be improved by CBD oil.

Why you may find it hard to access CBD Oil

As you may know, CBD oil can be extracted from either marijuana or industrial hemp, and that is part of the problem. Some people still think that CBD oil and marijuana are one and the same, so CBD oil ends up being subjected to unnecessary restrictions.

Remember, CBD oil is non-psychoactive and has no documented adverse effects.

While legal federally, some states have outlawed it directly or don’t have laws making it legal. This creates confusion regarding whether people could be breaking the law if they get this oil.

The history of CBD oil legalization in Texas

Texas is one of the most conservative U.S. states in terms of its marijuana laws. This conservative tendency has also extended to CBD oil, as can be seen with the current CBD legality debates.

The state passed the Compassionate Use Act in 2015, and it allowed patients with intractable epilepsy to use low-THC oil as an alternative treatment. This was great, but even with that, patients had to jump through numerous hoops, such as needing two specialists to approve it, before they can access low-THC oil from one of the three outlets.

Legislators in the Lone Star State have passed House Bill 3703, which adds more qualifying conditions that can be treated with CBD oil. That means more eligible people that can use cannabis oil with a THC content that doesn’t exceed 0.5 percent.

The current legal status of CBD Oil in Texas

The consumer market for CBD oil is thriving in Texas, so you can buy this oil from health stores and other outlets in the state.
