How to Start a Marijuana Delivery Service in Montana:
In 2004, Montana residents voted on a medical cannabis law, but it included nothing about any kind of medical dispensary program or system. Fast forward more than a decade, and Montana voters are now planning for recreational marijuana use.
Currently, a person with a valid marijuana transporter license can transport or deliver marijuana products. Registered marijuana cardholders do not need a marjuana transporter license when buying from a dispensary.

When was cannabis made legal
Montana residents voted in favor of legalized adult-use marijuana (Initiatives 190 and 118). In May 2021, House Bill (HB) 701 became a law, making adult-use marijuana legal. Now, adults 21 years and older can possess, purchase, and consume cannabis if they are medical marijuana cardholders. Legal recreation use goes into affect January 2022. Currently, non-cardholding adults can also grow up to two mature plants in their homes,. This changes to four if they have medical marijuana cards.
Previously, only approved medical marijuana patients could purchase and grow marijuana. Additionally, Bill, SB 033, signed in May of 2017, lets medical marijuana organizations establish businesses within the state of Montana. This includes testing facilities and dispensaries.

How many dispensaries are currently in Montana
There are currently no recreational dispensaries in Montana. The state expects to begin recreational sales in 2022. Current medical dispensaries will not have to charge a 20% tax.
Local municipalities have control over what happens in their territory. They can ban or limit marijuana businesses if they so choose. For that reason, it is important to stay up-to-date with the rules set up by the municipality where you would like to set up your delivery business.
How much money is there in the dispensary market
Montana’s marijuana industry is booming. There were $19,600,000 in sales during 2016 alone. 2021 profit projections are $58,000,000 or more.
License and Financial Requirements
Licensees must be Montana residents (and be able to prove it). Fingerprint background checks are required to complete a licensing application. Potential businesses should also consider licensing fees.
Timeframe
