The Best Cannabis and Food Pairings

Reading time: 7 minutes

Ah, food and cannabis. Few things in life go so well together than a bag of weed and the munchies. Of all my favorite things I can write about, these two definitely make it on the list.

With the increasing number of marijuana strains in the market today, it kind of makes sense for people to experiment with different food pairings to see which combinations provide the best experience. Like a fine wine and rare steak, the right strain of cannabis can go a long way to enhance a meal.

After all, both food and marijuana contain terpenes which are the natural flavors and aromas found in food and plants. Put the right ones together and you may just have one immaculate experience that could threaten the size of your waistline. Just Kidding.

The deep relaxing body buzz and cerebral euphoria you feel from this indica dominant hybrid is complemented by the cold and creamy texture of yogurt. Not to mention, yogurt supplies good bacteria to your gut leaving you feeling full but not bloated. It’s a product of a four-way cross between Northern Lights, Hash Plant, Afghani SA and Canadian Ortega and is 95% indica.

It starts with a strong punch inducing feelings of euphoria followed by a numbing body buzz and possible couchlock. 6. Purple Haze (the Backup Plan for Dinner Disasters)

Alright, sometimes the food will be a disaster. If your girlfriend is still learning how not to burn her casserole, or your grandma lost the plot with her 1950’s-style cooking –sometimes a little psychedelics might be just what the doctor ordered.

A surefire way to make you forget about burnt crusts and tinfoil-tasting lasagna, Purple Haze, with all of it’s Jimi Hendrix-inspired kush goodness will take the edge off and make you so hungry you’ll ask for seconds.

How to Pair Cannabis Strains with Food

These are just a few examples of pairings you can do. We hope this gives you an idea of how to mix food and cannabis together. If you’re still confused on how to mix and match the two together, here are a few things to keep in mind.

How to Pair Cannabis Strains with Food

1. Understand terpenes

As mentioned earlier, terpenes are what gives food and cannabis their unique smell and taste. Once you understand this and learn to identify the subtle differences of flavors and aromas of both food and cannabis, it becomes easier to pair the right strains and dishes.

2. Trust your senses

Most cannabis strains will be named after the strong flavor profile they have. Strains like Lemon Pie, Liquid Butter, Mango Kush, and Grape Ape are obviously named after the dominant flavor they have so take these into consideration when picking strains. Also, don’t forget to do your research to see the complete flavor and aroma profile of each.

Your preferences are a big factor too for whether a pairing will taste good or not. Find out what you like and try mixing up with your favorite flavors combinations. There’s really no right or wrong here so there’s no point trying to achieve the most perfect mix.

3. Complement or balance flavors

If you’re a big foodie, you probably already know what flavors and aromas tastes great with what. Take advantage of this knowledge by experimenting with different flavor combinations. You have a few options. You can complement the taste of the food you’re eating by smoking a similar tasting strain or you can pick a contrasting flavor to balance it out.

Pairings you try will not always be perfect. Take note of scents and flavors you tasted and the ones that you liked, making adjustments along the way.. Again, don’t worry about getting it right. Food is always enjoyable regardless of what strain you pick. The pairings are just there to make the experience even more enriching.

  1. I have a question. Can you tell us a little bit about cooking pot into brownies or any other food we can make to enjoy our pot a little longer than smoking it?
