Growing Marijuana In Arizona

For years, Arizona maintained an active medical marijuana program, but in 2020, things changed.

Now, not only can any adult 21+ possess small amounts of marijuana; they can also grow it.

Medical marijuana

For those looking to purchase marijuana, Arizona dispensaries are a popular option.

There are quite a few marijuana dispensaries in Arizona – too many to count, in fact.

Plus, those that live too far from one, can grow their own.

Prior to Proposition 207, patients needing special strains, or those living more than 25 miles from a dispensary could grow their own.

The growing limit for those patients is 12 plants, and they must be grown in a locked growing facility.

Patients that qualify for growing are supposed to notify the Arizona Department of Health Services.

They also should have no more than two and one-half ounces at a time.

Arizona’s medical marijuana program includes Alzheimer’s disease,  amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease), cachexia or wasting syndrome, cancer, chronic pain, Crohn’s Disease, glaucoma, hepatitis c, HIV or aids, multiple sclerosis, nausea, PTSD, and seizures.

Those growing marijuana without qualifying for the medical marijuana program, have different guidelines.

Growing in Arizona

On November 3, 2020, the people of Arizona voted to legalize adult-use marijuana.

They also voted for the right to grow, making it legal to cultivate up to six plants in this state.

A household may have up to 12 plants. It’s also legal to transfer up to an ounce of marijuana.

The guidelines around where and how you can grow are still being developed.

However, it’s a good idea to download Robert’s Marijuana Grow Bible and get a head start on gaining some skills.

It includes some expert tips and tricks for creating and maintaining private and discrete marijuana gardens – both indoors and outdoors.

The Arizona climate is perfect for growing – indoors, and if you want to take advantage of that sun, a potted patio plant works as well.

For years, Arizona straddled the fence between fully recreational and strict medical laws. Now they’ve clearly joined the side of their Western neighbors.

While the state finalizes this new law, they still offer reciprocity with neighboring states.

If you are a registered patient in another state, you are allowed to possess up to two and one-half ounces of marijuana.

  1. Dont report it as a “special strain” . Why would you believe you have an ineligible strain. Does it have super powers? Weed is weed.

  2. I asked the Arizona Department of Health If I was allowed to grow a special strain That I need And they told me that that is not trueCan someone please help me figure this out

  3. If you live in Arizona, look up Arizona Safer & support the referendum they are putting together for 2018. This will replace the current AZ laws that were put in place to protect the dispensaries by eliminating private growing within 25 miles of a dispensary. Marijuana Policy Project took big $$ from the dispensary backers to the detriment of the citizen. MPP SOLD US OUT!!! And gave AZ a pretty crappy deal.
