Throughout ancient and contemporary history, love potions have become a tale as old as time. Growing up, stories about these magical tonics have graced all sorts of reading materials such as children’s book, encyclopedia, pocketbooks, and countless others.
Legend has it that a blinding gleam of light strikes a person soon after drinking the love potion. Afterwards, the drinker starts to feel a romantic sensation towards the potion giver. Such feeling begins to intensify into mad passion followed by an intense erotic desire.
Love potions are a form of aphrodisiacs that could cause an increase in libido and therefore spurs amorous engagements. Likewise, smoking Love Potion No. 1 strain disperses love and euphoria in the air leaving users very horny – a prelude to intimate pleasure that is to come. Users who are up for a roll in the hay with their significant other can take the experience to greater heights by adding Love Potion No. 1 into the mix.
To develop this hybrid, the breeder Reeferman Seeds used two incredibly outstanding but elusive strains.
One is a female G13, allegedly bred by the CIA and FBI back in the 60s for whatever reason no one can fathom. Because it is a mostly Indica strain, it may not be conducive to what is to be later known as an aphrodisiac. In other words, after sexual arousal, users are bound to feel too relaxed and fall asleep. As one knows, what couples need is something that can also boost the energy.
Here, the choice of using a male landrace Colombian Gold proved to be the key. It is not yet-another Sativa strain, but also one that does not cause people to feel paranoid or anxious to go along with its uplifting high.
After pairing these two, the resulting strain was backcrossed to the original male Colombian Gold. Reeferman never explained why, but the assumption is that it is to stabilize as well as increase the Sativa percentage of Love Potion No. 1. In 2004, the strain made a name for itself by winning the Sativa category of the High Times Cannabis Cup.

Love Potion No. 1 comes with an above average potency. Use too much, and like others, it might become overbearing. However, using it within limits allows users to experience the best of its psychoactive properties.
At its onset, a fast-moving surge starts from the spine to the fingertips that promote mental vigor. It leaves users feeling super ecstatic and uplifted. As the reinvigorating charge from this strain sharpens the senses and imagination, it unlocks the creative side of people.
Before long, users would notice tension vanishing. That is due to the Indica traits that come creeping into the body. As it soothes the muscles and the nerves, it results in a general sense of relaxation. It complements the mental high by spreading the uplifting sensation all over without causing sedation, laziness, or lethargy.
The flavor is exactly the same as its fragrance. While it may be a little harsh, Love Potion No. 1 makes up for it with a lemon and lime taste that’s especially apparent on the exhale. A hint of spicy and skunky details can also be detected.
Unfortunately, Reeferman was not able to duplicate the Colombian Gold when it comes to causing anxiousness. Blame it on the genetics of G13. However, in most cases, users are not likely to experience that at all. The few who do, though, will find it mild and negligible. Often, this is a result of overestimating one’s capability.
Love Potion No. 1 may not be marketed as a medical cannabis strain. In fact, it is often sold as an aphrodisiac, something to add spice to what may otherwise be a routine sex life. Even so, it does not mean that it has no pharmacological value at all.
One of its most notable traits is delivering hours of energy-boost. As such, some people may use it to combat fatigue. Furthermore, the way it induces a euphoric and uplifting high can melt away stress. People with depression benefits by being able to manage their emotion or thoughts.
Finally, during the comedown, it is but natural for users to feel hungry. Used for this purpose, it helps people with trouble eating by stimulating their appetite.

Even in appearance, Love Potion No. 1 is a beautiful strain. It has fiery orange hairs and forest green leaves, coated with sticky, snow-white trichomes.
Growers can cultivate it indoors or outdoors. As most growers opt to plant it inside the house, one thing to keep in mind is that it is sensitive to disruption in the light cycle. Once it enters the flowering stage, ensure that dark stays dark with no light leaks.
One thing that growers can do to encourage an explosive growth is to use the Sea of Green or Screen of Green training method. Typically, it has a flowering period of 8 to 10 weeks. Once it is ready for harvest, the estimated yield is up to 12 ounces per square meter.
The best environment for Love Potion No. 1 to thrives outdoors is in an area where it is semi-humid or temperate. Cared for appropriately, it should be ready by the last week of November with each plant producing 12 ounces of buds or more.
