Purple Cow Strain

Purple Cow, by its structure alone, is quite interesting. In spite of its predominantly Sativa genes, it produces tight Indica-like buds with purple overtones. For this reason, it is a popular strain among growers but is also the bud of choice for many enthusiasts because of its buildable high.

In creating the Sativa-dominant herb, its breeders crossed the award-winning Flo and the famous Dairy Queen. The former is recognized for its ease of growth and energizing effects while the latter has a distinct high that deeply relaxes users without sedation as well as its distinct terpene profile.

Apart from its recreational high, the Seattle native Purple Cow has multiple therapeutic benefits. Its ability to enhance focus and relax the body, for example, helps patients with ADHD or those with anxiety from chronic stress calm down.

Purple Cow is not one to waste time. It acts fast and delivers a cerebral buzz that begins almost after the first two to three puffs. However, its high remains buildable thanks to its versatile THC levels of 14% to 19%. For this reason, it is a great bud for beginners looking to increase tolerance against its main psychoactive compound.

The behavioral change is immediately noticeable once the initial effects have set in. The rush of euphoria leaves users feeling upbeat. Some may even find themselves smiling and giggling for the simplest of reasons.

Many like spending their time idly basking in the happy memories however, casual users prefer taking advantage of the uplifted disposition to get some work done. Through the mental clarity, thoughts flow and form freely into profound thoughts and innovative ideas.

After about an hour or two, a light pressure ebbs down from between the eyes. Calming and soothing, it loosens each muscle and envelops users in deep relaxation. However, it is not at all sedating and neither does it make one feel lethargic. Rather, it helps one move with fluidity or sit through projects and tasks for long periods of time.

Because of its great wake-and-bake qualities, Purple Cow is better used in the morning or afternoon. Using it at night will only keep one awake.

Purple Cow has a pleasing floral aroma similar to that of lavenders. Complementing it are fruity notes of berries and mangoes. Though sweet, the bud fills the air with its subtle sour undertones.

Carrying over to Purple Cow’s flavor is its strong floral overtones enhanced by fruity notes of berry. Though thick, its sweet tropical smoke is smooth on the truth. On the exhale, an aftertaste of mango lingers in the palate even after the last puff.

    Adverse Reaction

Like other strains, Purple Cow inhibits the production of moisture especially in areas like the mouth and the eyes. The dehydration is usually mild but can be quite an irritating experience for some. In such cases, it is best to have a pitcher of water ready in case of discomfort.

In high doses, Purple Cow can sometimes induce a condition called ‘greening out.’ Its symptoms range from a mild headache to a temporary dizziness. At times, the heightened awareness can sometimes make users feel a little anxious. Pacing and moderation, however, will keep such effects at bay.

It is not wrong to think Purple Cow was developed for the recreational community. After all, that has been the presumption of marijuana whether rightly or wrongly. Still, the Sativa-dominant bud provides patients with a pharmacological reprieve against mental and physical fatigue.

A natural mood enhancer, Purple Cow is perfect for fighting stress. It stimulates the mind and eases away anxiety. Replacing the negative thoughts and self-doubt is a confidence that can only come from within. For this reason, it also works as an anti-depressant that helps patients temporary manage mental illnesses like PTSD or depression.

As alluded to earlier, Purple Cow has an interesting plant structure. It grows much like a typical Sativa – tall and lanky – but produces Indica-like buds which are distinguished for its chunky density. It also does not stretch out largely on each side and is quite small and compact.

With that said, Purple Cow requires extra care and attention. Its thin stalks and branches require additional support through staking or tying. And, because the plant prefers a warm, sunny climate, it may have a hard time adapting to the colder weather of the northern hemisphere.

For this reason, many prefer cultivating the strain indoors where adjusting factors such as temperature, lighting, and humidity is conveniently. Its height necessitates management techniques such as early topping. Applying the Sea of Green method will also bring out the plant’s full potential.

Aspiring growers may bring out its vivid violet hues by exposing the plant to colder temperatures once it hits the flowering stage. However, it usually produces deep, dark nugs that are totally covered in crystallized trichomes and lined with bright purple hairs.

      Flowering Time

Typical of Sativa-dominant strains, Purple Cow has a long flowering period that usually lasts between 10 to 12 weeks. Mature plants usually produce 12 to 16 ounces of buds per square meter but will produce even more under the expert care of seasoned growers.

Garden grown Purple Cow blossoms from the last week of October to the second or third week of November. Growers usually harvest at least 16 ounces of buds per plant.
